Day 28 of 31 Days of Five Minute Free Writes!
Today’s word is “connect” – five minutes on the timer… and go!
A few weeks ago, I had the privilege of attending my first writers conference – Breathe. It was held at the Grand Rapids Theological Seminary right around the time this whole 31 days started! The theme: “connect to create”.
First of all as a newbie conference attender, it was AH-mazing! But as a writer, it was beyond encouraging to see all these other writers who write a myriad of different things and realize: THEY HAVE THE SAME STRUGGLES I DO!
They probably know how to deal with them better, but we all fight the distractions and fear and failure and all the things that compound against us to sit down in front of this screen to write.
At one point, Don Pierini was speaking in the plenary and he told each of us to go to certain places depending on the thing that makes creating the hardest: distractions, fear, perfection…etc. I found my way over to a whole pile of people who get distracted. Laughing with another lady, we both talked about how we “SQUIRREL!”.
Connecting levels the playing field. It also helps us see that even in this very “alone-ly” type of work, we still need each other.
… and time’s up!
Day 28 complete!
